Marlins All-Star IF Joey Wendle to miss third straight game with hamstring injury

After winning 12 of their first 20 games to open the 2022 season, the Miami Marlins are now mired in a mini losing streak of three contests. When they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon, they'll be playing without All-Star infielder Joey Wendle for the third consecutive game due to his hamstring injury.

Coming off of his finest campaign during his six-plus year MLB career thus far, Wendle is off to another strong start in 2022. The utility man has gone 18-for-60 with nine runs scored, one home run, six doubles, eight RBI and four stolen bases in the early part of the year through 18 games played.

Wendle finished 2021 with career highs in home runs (11) and runs scored (73), while knocking 31 doubles and posting a .265/.319/.422 slash line as well. After spending 2016 and 2017 with the Oakland Athletics to begin his career and playing just 36 games, Wendle broke out in his first season with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.

That year, the 32-year-old set what are still career highs in games played (139), at-bats (487), RBIs (61), hits (146), doubles (33), steals (16), batting average (.300), on-base percentage (.357), slugging percentage (.435) and on-base plus slugging percentage (.789). Wendle finished 2018 fourth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting.
