The Miami Marlins announced their Spring Training non-roster invitees and one former member of the Boston Red Sox cracked the list.

Former Red Sox reliever Matt Andriese has bounced around over the last few years but will have an opportunity to make the Marlins' big league club with a strong Spring Training performance. It's unclear what role he will play in the organization, but he at least will be in Spring Training after landing a minor league deal, according to the club.

Andriese is a seven-year big league veteran but hasn't appeared in a game in the majors since 2021. He joined the Red Sox ahead of the 2021 campaign and struggled in 26 appearances. Andriese logged a 6.03 ERA and had a 38-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 37 1/3 innings pitched before being designated for assignment and eventually released.

The righty landed with the Seattle Mariners on a big league contract and was more steady but was designated for assignment once again after eight appearances.

Andriese spent the 2022 season with the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball and had a 2.86 ERA in 15 appearances to go along with a 56-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The veteran hurler signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2023 season and made 21 appearances -- including 19 starts -- with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers and had a 6.05 ERA in 93 2/3 innings pitched.

He now joins the Marlins' organization looking to make his way back to the big leagues. It's unclear if he will be a starter or reliever, but it never hurts to add talent with big-league upside on minor-league deals.
