Marlins trade for reliever Adam Cimber, designate Jose Urena for assignment

The Cleveland Indians and Miami Marlins came together for a deal that allowed both clubs to jettison right-handed pitchers.

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN) and Joe Frisaro of the league's official website, the Indians have sold relief pitcher Adam Cimber to the Marlins for cash considerations reported to be $100,000. In a corresponding roster move, Miami designated 2018 and 2019 Opening Day starter Jose Urena for assignment.

Cimber originally joined the Indians via a trade with the San Diego Padres that also landed Cleveland All-Star closer Brad Hand in July 2018. The Indians placed Hand on outright waivers following the World Series in late October.

Cimber, who turned 30 years old in August, appeared in 14 games with the Tribe during the pandemic-shortened regular season. In 11.1 innings, he had a 3.97 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and five strikeouts. According to The Athletic, he is set to earn $900,000 in 2021.

Urena, meanwhile, saw his production dip after he went 14-7 with a 3.82 ERA during the 2017 campaign. In 24 games, including 13 starts, in 2019, the 29-year-old accumulated a 4-10 record. He then went 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in five starts this past season.

The AP projected Urena was slated to earn an MLB salary of approximately $4 million for 2021.
