Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, Max Fried allowed one hit in seven sparkling innings, and the New York Yankees earned a 3-0 victory over the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.

Fried (6-0), Devin Williams and Luke Weaver (third save) threw a combined one-hitter. Jose Caballero hit a clean single with one out in the fifth.

The Yankees improved to 7-0 this season with Fried on the mound. He struck out six, walked two, notched 10 outs on groundballs and became the first six-game winner in the majors this season while lowering his ERA to 1.01.

Williams breezed through 1-2-3 eighth in his first home appearance since being removed from his closer's role earlier this week. Weaver struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.

New York's Aaron Judge went 2-for-4 to extend his on-base streak to 28 games. The slugger set up Goldschmidt's homer with a double down the left field line that chased Tampa Bay starter Ryan Pepiot (2-4). Jorbit Vivas, who drew a leadoff walk, moved to third on the double.

After Judge doubled, reliever Mason Montgomery fanned Ben Rice with two on, but Goldschmidt then lifted the left-hander's 1-1 fastball into the right field seats to give New York a 3-0 lead.

Judge, who also tripled in the third, is hitting a big-league-best .430.

Fried was aided by strong defense behind him, especially from Oswaldo Cabrera. The third baseman started a double play on a Chandler Simpson grounder to end the third, made a slight dive to get a grounder by Yandy Diaz in the fourth and scooped a grounder by Curtis Mead for the final out of the fifth.

Pepiot allowed two runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out one and walked two in his shortest outing this season.

The Rays lost their fourth straight game after winning their previous five. Tampa Bay was blanked for the second time in three games and fifth time overall.

The Yankees had lost two of their previous three games.
