Mets ace Jacob deGrom having follow-up MRI on Monday

It was learned last Tuesday that New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom was transferred to the 60-day injured list due to the stress reaction in the scapula of his pitching shoulder that's sidelined him all season. That same day, Mets general manager Billy Eppler told reporters that deGrom had begun throwing "out to 60 feet at light intensity" and would undergo a follow-up MRI at some point this week.

Per Anthony DiComo of the MLB website, the two-time Cy Young Award winner is undergoing that MRI on Monday:

As Danny Abriano explained for SNY, deGrom's 60-day designation meant little, as the 33-year-old wasn't expected to return to the active roster before the second week of June regardless of last Tuesday's development. 26-year-old Tylor Megill initially replaced deGrom in the rotation but was placed on the 15-day IL Sunday with biceps tendinitis in his pitching arm. The hope is Megill won't miss more than a few starts, at most.

Meanwhile, deGrom still hasn't pitched in a meaningful big-league game since July 7 of last year, and there remains no timetable for his return. Without his services, the Mets began Monday at 23-13 and with a 5.5-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East standings.
