Mets ace Jacob deGrom on track to return Sunday vs. Diamondbacks

New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom spread feelings of panic among members of the club's fan base when he was pulled from what should have been a Tuesday start at the St. Louis Cardinals because of inflammation in his right lat.

Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters Wednesday he believed the two-time National League Cy Young Award winner could take the bump for Sunday's home game versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Per Anthony DiComo of the league's website, Rojas explained Friday that deGrom felt "really good" after a bullpen session and is on track to pitch Sunday.

That toss must've gone well, as deGrom featured at shortstop for a portion of Friday's batting practice and even got some air making a play:

For what it's worth, some have suggested the Mets should sit deGrom for an entire week or so to make sure the inflammation doesn't become something worse:

Nevertheless, the Mets seem keen on starting the NL Pitcher of the Month for April this weekend.
