Mets ace Jacob deGrom to have another rehab start, return date pushed back

The New York Mets announced on Monday that ace pitcher Jacob deGrom will have another rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

While the rehab start wasn't unexpected, it also ensures that deGrom will not be available to rejoin the Mets this week to face the Yankees as was previously hoped. The 34-year-old right-hander had a simulated game pushed back last week after he experienced soreness in his shoulder. He was seen having a throwing session at Citi Field over the weekend.

DeGrom has yet to pitch at the big league level this season because of his injured shoulder. He hasn't taken the mound in an MLB game since June 2021 when a flexor tendon issue ended his season.

In addition to questions regarding if and when deGrom will pitch this season, there are questions as to whether he will wear a Mets jersey past 2022. He has one year and $32.5 million guaranteed remaining with a club option in 2024.
