One of the New York Mets' All-Stars will be back on the field Wednesday.

Mets outfielder Starling Marte had a difficult 2023 campaign and never was able to get on track. The two-time All-Star only was able to appear in 86 games due to injuries and played his final game of the season on August 5.

Marte has been rehabbing and looking to work his way back after surgery and will see his first Grapefruit League action of the spring on Wednesday, according to SNY's Danny Abriano.

"Marte is looking to rebound after a 2023 season where he was never fully healthy following double groin surgery," Abriano said. "He played winter ball in the Dominican Republic during the offseason and said he's ready to play "170" games this season. He is set to make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday.

"He's doing a lot of backfield activities where he's facing live pitching, sprinting, doing different drills," (Carlos Mendoza) said as transcribed by Abriano. "The goal is for him to be in the lineup tomorrow."

If Marte is fully healthy he can be a major lift for New York in 2024. The Mets had an underwhelming 2023 season and injuries certainly didn't help. Marte was an All-Star in 2022 and if he can return to form, it could go a long way for New York.

The Mets seem to be in a much better spot on paper right now than at the end of the 2023 season. New York hasn't made a massive investment but has made multiple intriguing additions.

New York could surprise some people in 2024 and a healthy Marte only would help with that.
