The New York Mets got some good news involving one of the club's All-Stars.
New York had a down year in 2023 and is looking to get back on track in 2024. The club didn't make many flashy additions but instead is hoping for better health and bounce-back campaigns from some of the club's stars to get back into contention for a playoff spot.
One player the club is hoping for a better season from is two-time All-Star Jeff McNeil. The 31-year-old shined in 2022 but wasn't fully healthy in 2023 and took a step back.
McNeil recently was shut down due to left biceps discomfort, but he reportedly is feeling "a lot better" and could be back soon, according to SNY's Anthony DiComo.
"Jeff McNeil (left biceps discomfort) is feeling 'a lot better,' per Carlos Mendoza," DiComo said. "He won't be receiving an MRI or other tests. Could be back relatively soon."
If McNeil can get back on track, it could go a long way in helping the Mets rebound. New York won just 75 games last season and finished in fourth place in the National League East.
The Mets had extremely high expectations but injuries and inconsistent play decimated the club. McNeill wasn't able to play at his standard but the fact that he is doing better should be a good sign that he will be ready for Opening Day.
New York could end up surprising some people in 2024 and a better season from McNeil only could help with that.
