Mets, Chris Bassitt avoid arbitration with one-year deal

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal , the New York Mets and starting pitcher Chris Bassitt agreed to a one-year, $8.8M contract just days ahead of a scheduled arbitration hearing.

The deal includes a $19M mutual option or a $150K buyout for 2023.

Bassitt's 2022 salary, per the agreement, will be $8.65M. His salary in 2021 with the Oakland Athletics was $4.9M.

Earlier this month, Bassitt spoke about the possibility of signing an extension with the club, bringing up GM Billy Eppler, manager Buck Showalter, and fellow starting pitcher Max Scherzer as reasons to stick around.

"From my standpoint, I am very surprised at how much I like it here, to be honest," Bassitt said.

The Mets acquired Bassitt in a trade with the A's in exchange for J.T. Ginn and Adam Oller in March.

Bassitt is 4-2 through eight starts for the Mets this season. The 2021 All-Star has a 2.77 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched.

For his career, the eight-year veteran is 35-27 with a 3.41 ERA in 604.1 innings pitched.
