The New York Mets continue to add depth pieces.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Mets have claimed catcher/infielder/outfielder Cooper Hummel off waivers and are adding him to their 40-man roster.

The Mets later announced that they claimed another veteran catcher off waivers in Tyler Heineman. The 32-year-old backstop was claimed from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cooper, 29, spent last season with the Seattle Mariners' organization, but appeared in just 10 games in the big-leagues. He batted .087 with a .322 OPS during his major league stint.

Cooper made his MLB debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2022, playing in 66 games, and slashing .176/.274/.307 with a .581 OPS, three home runs and 17 RBIs.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns drafted Hummel with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2016. Stearns later traded Hummel to the Diamondbacks in 2021 to acquire former Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar.

Hummel has played catcher, first base, third base right field and left field in his career.

Hummel will likely serve as depth at the Triple-A level next season if he sticks in the organization through spring training. For now, he will occupy a spot on the 40-man roster.

As for Heineman, he made his MLB debut in 2019, and has played for the San Francisco Giants, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates and Blue Jays.

Last year, he hit .276/.432/.379 with a .811 OPS in 19 games for Toronto.

For his career, Heineman has slashed .218/.297/.282 with a .579 OPS in 104 games.
