Mets' Francisco Lindor approaching history with RBI streak

As Henry Palattella noted for the official MLB website, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was named National League Player of the Week coming off the Memorial Day holiday weekend after he slashed .348/.407/.870 and drove home at least one RBI across eight straight games.

Lindor's streak continued on the first day of June, and the four-time All-Star is flirting with history weeks before summer.

Per Robert Aitken Jr. of NorthJersey.com, Lindor notched a sacrifice fly to bring Tomas Nido home from third base for an RBI in the seventh inning of Wednesday's 5-0 home victory over the Washington Nationals. That extended Lindor's RBI streak to 10 games, which matches something Hall of Famer Mike Piazza achieved with the Mets in 1999.

Piazza holds the franchise record of 15 straight contests with an RBI, a mark he set in 2000. Meanwhile, Aitken explained that the longest RBI streak among shortstops is 11 straight games set by Carlos Guillen in 2007.

"It's not like I focus more, but I want to get the job done," Lindor remarked after the game. "I want to do whatever it takes. I'm very focused every at-bat, but when there's someone on base, I've got to do whatever it takes to bring that guy in. A run helps the team win."

There will be little rest for the 35-17 Mets, as they'll travel out west for a series opener at the Los Angeles Dodgers scheduled for Thursday night.
