Mets' Jacob deGrom throwing 'out to 60 feet at light intensity,' 'progressing' from injury

Per what had been the latest official update, New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom received an MRI and CT scan in late April that showed "considerable healing" regarding the stress reaction in the scapula of his pitching shoulder that's kept him out of action all season, and deGrom was on track to have the shoulder re-imaged at some point next week.

The situation somewhat changed, however, when the Mets transferred deGrom to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday so they could claim relief pitcher Locke St. John off waivers from the Chicago Cubs.

Both general manager Billy Eppler and manager Buck Showalter offered their versions of updates ahead of Tuesday's game at the Washington Nationals.

"Everything's going well. I'm going to stay out of the doctor-and-trainer business, but he's where he's supposed to be," Showalter added about the two-time Cy Young Award winner, according to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "I'm not going to say 'ahead' or 'behind,' but they like the way he's progressing."

Lingering elbow issues cost deGrom the second half of the 2021 MLB season, and he hasn't pitched in a regular-season game since July 7 of last year. While there remains no timetable for his return to action, it's worth noting the Mets began Tuesday at 20-10 and holding a six-game lead in the National League East standings.

In short, the Mets may get away with keeping deGrom a spectator through the All-Star break:
