Mets' Marcus Stroman day-to-day, MRI on hip clean

In what's become a rarity these days, the New York Mets received a positive update about a pitcher facing a physical setback.

Per the SNY staff, an MRI on the sore left hip of New York starting right-hander Marcus Stroman came back clean after he exited Tuesday's start against the Atlanta Braves in the top of the second inning because of the issue. The 30-year-old addressed the news via Twitter.

While Stroman is considered day-to-day, it's unknown if he'll be able to make his next scheduled start. He holds a 6-5 record with a 2.32 ERA over 85.1 innings of work this season.

The Mets' pitching staff has been decimated by injuries as of late. Ace and National League Most Valuable Player candidate Jacob deGrom is currently healthy but has dealt with injury scares regarding his right shoulder, right flexor tendinitis, and inflammation in his right lat. Noah Syndergaard suffered a setback in his recovery from the Tommy John surgery he had last year and may not be available to the big-league club until late August or early September. Carlos Carrasco still hasn't made his Mets debut because of the torn hamstring he first suffered in March and could remain out of the rotation through at least all of July. Joey Lucchesi is set to undergo Tommy John surgery on Thursday and won't pitch again before next summer at the earliest.

The Mets still sit in first place in the NL East standings despite losing six of their last eight games but cannot afford to have another reliable starter go down for even a week before the All-Star break.
