Mets' Max Scherzer reportedly bought feast, AirPods for minor league teammates

As Nick Aguilera noted for the official MLB website, New York Mets ace Max Scherzer made it clear following his first rehab start with the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies last week that he wished to return to the big-league rotation as soon as possible.

"I want to get back out there so bad," Scherzer explained at that time. "You put in all this work. You see the team playing some great baseball. You want to be out there competing and winning with them, so for me, I want to be in the big leagues, not be a Rumble Pony."

Scherzer didn't immediately get his wish, as he had to log one last rehab appearance this week before he could declare himself ready to start this coming Tuesday's game at the Cincinnati Reds.

Despite his frustrations, the three-time Cy Young Award winner was rather generous while working to recover from the oblique strain he first suffered on May 18.

According to Jake Mintz of Fox Sports, Scherzer treated his Binghamton teammates to a "feast that included bone-in ribeye, filet mignon and lobster" said to be worth "upward of $7,000" following Wednesday's game.

There's more.

A source also told Fox Sports that Scherzer "bought everyone AirPods" that were handed to players two days after his first start with Binghamton.

David Scott of the New York Post mentioned that Scherzer agreed to a three-year, $130 million deal with the Mets last fall. The 37-year-old nevertheless gave baseball fans everywhere a reason to smile ahead of their long weekends.
