Mets' Michael Conforto out for season with hamstring injury

New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto will end the coronavirus-shortened regular season a spectator.

Ahead of Thursday's game against division foes the Washington Nationals, the Mets confirmed that the 27-year-old has gone on the injured list due to a hamstring problem. New York is facing playoff elimination and could mathematically be excluded from postseason play as quickly as tonight.

Conforto first suffered the injury on Sunday and then aggravated the issue during Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Before that, he set career-bests in batting average (.322) and on-base percentage (.412). He ends his campaign with nine home runs, 31 RBI, 40 runs and 12 doubles.

The Mets recalled shortstop Luis Guillorme in a corresponding roster move.
