Mets' Noah Syndergaard throws four shutout innings in rehab debut

In what's become a rarity this spring, the New York Mets actually received good news on the injury front.

Per Mike Puma of the New York Post, starter Noah Syndergaard completed his first minor league rehabilitation appearance and tossed four shutout innings for Single-A St. Lucie in Jupiter, Florida, on Wednesday. Syndergaard notched six strikeouts, surrendered a single hit and showed solid velocity on his fastball.

"Right where he needs to be," one scout said of Syndergaard, who missed the entire pandemic-shortened 2020 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. He remains on track to return to the big league club around mid-June.

The Mets entered Wednesday with a lineup's worth of players on the injured list, including ace Jacob deGrom, and recently added outfielder Kevin Pillar and starting right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker to the IL. As noted by the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Walker exited Monday's win over the Atlanta Braves after only three innings of work with tightness in his left side.

Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News tweeted the Mets had more questions than answers about their rotation ahead of Wednesday's series finale at Atlanta:
