Mets OF Michael Conforto on extension talks: 'Nothing to report on my end'

New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto will become a free agent after the 2021 season unless he reaches an extension with the club before that.

However, things don't sound too great on the extension front. Conforto said on Saturday that he has no new information regarding contract talks, according to SNY's Alex Smith.

"Nothing to report on my end," Conforto said. "I don't know if I'm surprised at all, I don't know how these things work. I'm just focused on playing baseball right now, and we'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks."

The 28-year-old has spent his entire career with the Mets and Sandy Alderson seems keen on keeping him around past 2021. The Mets team president said earlier this week that he expects extension talks with Conforto and star shortstop Francisco Lindor to begin soon.

Conforto had a great 2020 season, slashing .322/.412/.515 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs. He's playing the 2021 campaign on a one-year deal worth a little over $12.2 million. It's unclear what sort of contract he's looking for in a new deal.
