Mets parting ways with six coaches after missing playoffs for fifth straight season

With Jacob deGrom looking primed for his third NL Cy Young Award earlier this year, the New York Mets seemed destined to break their four-year drought of postseason-less baseball in Queens. Instead, deGrom was limited to 15 starts, the offseason acquisition of shortstop Francisco Lindor and summer pickup of infielder Javier Baez mostly flopped as the Metropolitans' streak extended to five seasons.

On Monday, it was reported that Luis Rojas wouldn't be retained as the team's manager. On Thursday, multiple reports announced that at least six members of Rojas' coaching staff would lose their positions as well.

Per MLB Insider Andy Martino, the organization has informed bench coach Dave Jauss, bullpen coach Ricky Bones, third base coach Gary DiSarcina, assistant pitching coach Jeremy Accardo, first base coach Tony Tarasco and major league field coordinator Brian Schneider that they were free to look for jobs elsewhere.

Additionally, the team is reassigning hitting coach Hugh Quattlebaum and Kevin Howard to the minors. Both Quattlebaum and Howard were initially hired to work in the Mets' minor-league system but were promoted when former New York hitting coach Chili Davis was fired in May.

Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner will remain with the club, but he and the team are discussing his future role.

The Mets finished the 2021 season third in the NL East behind the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies at 77-85.
