Mets' Pete Alonso: 'I love' playing for manager Luis Rojas

The New York Mets improved to 102-117, overall , under current manager Luis Rojas via Thursday's 12-3 blowout win over the Miami Marlins in New York's season home finale that will also likely serve as the last time Rojas manages the Amazins for a game held at Citi Field. Tim Britton of The Athletic reported earlier this week the club likely won't retain Rojas' services, and Rojas seemed to understand that reality while speaking with reporters ahead of Thursday's victory.

It may not matter in the long run, but adored Mets slugger Pete Alonso nevertheless said ahead of Friday's series opener at the Atlanta Braves he loves playing under his current boss:

The Mets have unofficially been out of playoff contention for some time and began Friday afternoon at 76-83 on a disappointing campaign. Rojas took some of the blame for the team's record during his media session:

Mets team president Sandy Alderson said during his end-of-season press conference the Mets, likely Alderson and owner Steve Cohen, will decide on Rojas' future before they hire a new president of baseball operations. As Justin Toscano of USA Today and others have pointed out, such a hire along with a new general manager will likely want to select their own manager, ideally a top-tier candidate, rather than remain linked with somebody from the previous front office.
