The New York Mets currently are missing their top pitcher but he may not be out for too long.

Mets ace Kodai Senga has been dealing with a moderate right shoulder injury which initially was a big scare. There were rumblings almost immediately after news of the injury came out that Senga could miss a significant chunk of the season.

At this point, it isn't clear exactly how much time he will miss, but the 31-year-old reportedly has made positive strides lately, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

"The word on Mets’ Kodai Senga’s health continues to be, by all accounts, very positive," Martino said.

If Senga can return to the mound soon, the perception around the club will completely change. New York seemingly is in a better spot on paper and should be able to compete for a National League postseason spot in 2024 but that hinges on the health of Senga.

He was an All-Star last season and finished seventh in the National League Cy Young Award voting with an impressive 2.98 ERA and 202-to-77 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 29 starts for New York.

If he's able to not miss much time, the Mets could surprise some people. New York made some intriguing additions throughout the offseason and seems like it may make another move, as well.

The Mets have been linked to six-time All-Star J.D. Martinez and he still is a possibility for the club.

New York needs Senga to perform to reach the club's potential and it doesn't sound like he will be out for too long and is making progress.
