The New York Mets' bullpen depth has taken a hit.

Relief pitcher John Curtiss underwent surgery on Tuesday to remove a loose body from his right elbow, as manager Buck Showalter told reporters.

On the bright side, Showalter says the right-hander is expected to be ready for Opening Day next season.

Curtiss made the Mets' Opening Day roster to begin the season, but he was sent up-and-down between the major leagues and Triple-A Syracuse during the 2023 campaign.

On the season, Curtiss posted a 4.58 ERA and 1.271 WHIP with 16 strikeouts across 19.2 innings (15 appearances).

In Triple-A, the righty had a 7.17 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 21.1 innings for Syracuse.

The Mets signed Curtiss to a major league deal ahead of the 2022 season, which he spent the entire year recovering from Tommy John surgery. They exercised his club option prior to the 2023 season. He has two more years of control after the season ends.
