Mets reportedly interested in Pirates All-Star 2B Adam Frazier

The New York Mets are first in the NL East, holding a four-game lead over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies. However, that doesn't mean they're not looking to add before this month's trade deadline.

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Mets are one of several teams interested in acquiring Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier.

Frazier is enjoying a breakout season with the Pirates and was voted as the National League's starting second baseman at next week's All-Star Game in Denver.

The 29-year-old is hitting .326/.396/.461 with four home runs, 28 RBI and an MLB-leading 109 hits in 85 games. In addition to playing second base, Frazier can also play in the outfield.

The Georgia native has one more season of arbitration eligibility before hitting free agency after the 2022 campaign.

Injuries have forced the Mets to play Jeff McNeil at second base. If they add Frazier, it could allow McNeil to shift back to third base, with Luis Guillorme and Jonathan Villar moving to utility roles.

Heyman reported last week that the Chicago White Sox are also interested in Frazier.
