Mets right-hander Carlos Carrasco takes step toward return, feels 'great'

Carlos Carrasco has yet to make his New York Mets' debut due to a torn hamstring he suffered during spring training. However, manager Luis Rojas provided a positive update on Saturday.

According to SNY, Rojas said Carrasco recently threw a bullpen session off the slope and feels "great." He added that the plan for him is to ramp up his throwing progression slowly.

While there's no timetable for when Carrasco will begin a rehab assignment, this news is a step in the right direction for the 34-year-old.

Mets president Sandy Alderson said earlier this month that he's "hopeful" Carrasco will return at some point between early and late July, according to SNY.

New York acquired the Venezuelan from the Cleveland Indians in the Francisco Lindor deal in January.

With Carrasco on the shelf, the Mets' pitching staff has posted an MLB-leading 3.06 ERA. The return of Carrasco will make the rotation even better.
