Mets sign reliever Aaron Loup to one-year, $3 million deal

The New York Mets continue to be one of the most active teams this winter under new owner Steven Cohen.

On Saturday, the Mets announced the signing of left-handed reliever Aaron Loup to a one-year deal. According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the deal is worth $3 million, including $250,000 in incentives.

The Mets zeroed in on Loup after losing out on Brad Hand, who signed with the Washington Nationals. The 33-year-old gives New York's bullpen a solid left-handed option, something the team previously lacked.

Loup has been a fairly reliable reliever since breaking onto the scene with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012. During the pandemic-shortened campaign with the Tampa Bay Rays, he went 3-2 with a 2.52 ERA, 0.840 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 25 innings.

In nine seasons, Loup owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.236 WHIP. He also spent time with the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies.
