The New York Mets have a lot on their plate this offseason as they look to rebound from a disastrous 2023 season.

Problem areas for the Mets to focus on this winter include finding bullpen relief, starting pitching, and ways to revive their lackluster offense.

Not all problems are solved overnight but the latest move by the organization may point to a solution down the road.

"(The Mets) signed infielder Rylan Bannon to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league Spring Training" the organization announced Monday.

Bannon hit .241 with 32 extra-base hits including 18 home runs, 56 RBIs, and a .809 OPS in 95 games played for Triple-A Sugar Land last season.

The Houston Astros designated Bannon for assignment and he was outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land but decided to elect free agency this offseason instead.

The 27-year-old has shown promise since being drafted in 2017 -- belting double-digit stats in the home run column every season played.

Bannon has experience at second base, third base and shortstop over his minor league career and could factor in as a depth option should injuries plague the infield next season.

It's unlikely to see Bannon jump to the big leagues any time soon but his promising power gives the Mets something to look forward to if the time comes.
