Mets SP Carlos Carrasco has surgery to remove bone fragment from elbow

New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco joined the club via last January's trade with the Cleveland Indians that resulted in the Mets also acquiring star shortstop Francisco Lindor. He ultimately had a lousy first year with his new MLB home.

It now appears the 34-year-old may have been dealing with an unpublicized setback through at least the final days of the season.

The Mets announced that Carrasco underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to remove a bone fragment from his pitching elbow:

Carrasco originally suffered a torn hamstring in March and repeatedly had his club debut date delayed as he endured setbacks through early summer. He finally took the bump to face big-league batters for the first time as a Met in late July but struggled to impress as the Amazins slumped following the All-Star break and fell well out of playoff contention.

In all, Carrasco finished the campaign with a 1-5 record and 6.04 ERA across 12 starts and 53.2 innings of work.

"I wouldn't say good, but there was a lot of ups and downs," Carrasco said of his first Mets season earlier this month, per Colin Martin of SNY. "It was a kind of a little bit weird for me, I didn't have a regular spring training, I missed three months, I just tried to work hard to getting back. We got another year, so just get ready myself for the next year man, and just come in ready."
