Recently, Kim Ng stepped aside as general manager of the Miami Marlins. She had a mutual contract option for 2024 and while the team exercised that end of it, she declined her side, becoming a free agent.

Reports surfaced that Ng was engaged in a power struggle with ownership and didn't want to be. Ownership wanted to hire someone above her in baseball operations, despite Ng have taken the Marlins to the playoffs in both 2020 and 2023.

Well, these decisions appear to have a ripple effect, with Marlins manager Skip Schumaker reportedly upset over it all.

Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post:

— The Padres will consider in-house candidates Mike Shildt and Ryan Flaherty for manager. They loved Marlins manager Skip Schumaker when he coached there, and he’s upset over GM Kim Ng being forced out in Miami, but folks don’t think it’s likely Miami lets him leave, a la Melvin.

First off, the Marlins don't have to let Schumaker interview in San Diego or anyone else. Since he's under contract, and another managerial job is a lateral move, they can block any requests from other organizations.

Secondly, it's understandable why Schumaker is upset. Ng hired him and had loyalty to him, and you never know if a new GM will feel the same way. Thirdly, Ng had shown a willingness to support the major league club. She aggressively promoted 19-year-old super prospect Eury Perez to the majors and went out and acquired David Robertson, Josh Bell and Jake Burger at the trade deadline to help with the playoff push.
