The Miami Marlins lost to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday by a score of 6-3. That loss polished off a three-game sweep and sent a message to the young Marlins, but it may have come with a bigger cost than just in the standings.

Star outfielder Jazz Chisholm was removed from the game with injury and here's the latest, courtesy of the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Chisholm was removed in the top of the eighth inning of Sunday's game in Atlanta due to left oblique soreness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. He went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts prior to his departure.

ANALYSIS
Chisholm didn't appear to be in any obvious discomfort at any point earlier in the contest, but he was lifted for a pinch hitter ahead of his fourth plate appearance of the day before the Marlins provided an explanation for his removal shortly thereafter. While it's at least somewhat reassuring that the Marlins are characterizing his injury as soreness rather than a strain, Chisholm could be sent in for further tests in the next day or two as the organization looks to ensure the 25-year-old isn't dealing with anything too significant. Chisholm can be viewed as day-to-day until the Marlins provide another update on his status...

At this point, it's just about collective breath holding in South Florida. Chisholm had been out for a while already this year with a foot issue and had just returned this week. He's a big presence in the Marlins lineup and the team certainly doesn't want to see him sidelined again. The team could elect to play it safe and hold him through the All-Star break, only having him miss this week of games, but the hope is that he's healthy enough to play.

After being swept, the Marlins are now 48-37 and 9.0 games back of the Braves in the National League East. They currently have the lead in the National League wild card race.

The Marlins will be back in action on Monday at 6:40 p.m. ET when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals. We should know more about Chisholm's injury then.
