The St. Louis Cardinals have three notable players who have already committed to playing for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic this coming spring.

National League MVP Paul Goldschmidt and fellow MVP finalist Nolan Arenado have both committed.

Staff ace Adam Wainwright also has announced that he intends to pitch in the Classic.

But another mainstay in the Cardinals starting rotation may join his teammates on Team USA next March.

Veteran right-hander Miles Mikolas, who put together a fantastic season, is also expected to pitch for the team, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Mikolas May Join Team USA

Mikolas, 34, was one of five Cardinals to be named to the National League All-Star squad in 2022, joining Goldschmidt, Arenado, Ryan Helsley, and Albert Pujols.

In 32 starts and one relief appearance, the right-hander won 12 games and posted a 3.29 ERA in 202.1 innings of work.

Mikolas also struck out a total of 153 batters, posted a WHIP of 1.03, and even threw a complete game.

The 34-year-old has yet to officially commit, but the Cardinals are expecting him to join his Cardinals teammates next March.

He’ll join a pitching staff that already includes Wainwright, Brady Singer, Merrill Kelly, Devin Williams, David Bednar, Kyle Freeland, Dillon Tate, and Nestor Cortes if he chooses to pitch for the Americans.

The Classic was originally supposed to be played in 2021, but was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The event was last held in 2017, when Team USA won the title.

Team USA will look to defend its title next spring.
