Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Wade Miley is currently dealing with shoulder soreness, manager Pat Murphy told the media Saturday.

Murphy first addressed Miley's injury on Friday, although he was vague about the specifics of the issue. At the time, he said Miley was "50/50" to be healthy in time for the start of the regular season on March 28.

Now, Murphy is saying the Brewers are taking precautions with Miley, who is no stranger no missing long stretches due to injury.

"(Miley) played catch, played through it, hasn't had any problem since" Murphy said, per The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak. "We just want to go slow because of his history. ... Everything hurts on him. Happens when you're 50."

Miley, 37, has yet to make an appearance in the Cactus League at Spring Training.

Miley is entering his 14th MLB season and third with the Brewers. While he hasn't made an All-Star Game since 2012, Miley is 42-24 with a 3.43 ERA and 10.7 WAR over the past six years.

In 2023, Miley went 9-4 with a 3.14 ERA, 1.139 WHIP and 2.5 WAR in 23 starts for Milwaukee. He also had two stints on the injured list, facing issues with his lat and elbow over the course of the season.

Miley made just eight appearances with the Chicago Cubs in 2022 as a result of a lingering shoulder injury.

The Brewers are turning to Freddy Peralta as their Opening Day starter come March 28, but Miley is favored to be the No. 2 man in their rotation. Brandon Woodruff is likely to miss most of 2024, while ace Corbin Burnes was dealt to the Baltimore Orioles last month.
