With the Major League Baseball trade deadline looming on Tuesday, Minnesota Twins outfielder Trevor Larnach is reportedly generating interest from the New York Mets and San Diego Padres.

Both teams are longshots to factor into this season's playoff picture, but Larnach could be a piece as they look to reset for next year while making a modest run this year.

The Mets are 6.5 games back of the final wild card spot entering play on Monday, while the Padres are 5.0 games back, giving themselves a more plausible path to the playoffs - albeit still unlikely.

Per MLBTradeRumors:

Larnach is only a couple of years removed from being a top-100 prospect, though he has a modest .223/.315/.380 slash line over 669 career plate appearances. This lack of performance and a season-ending core muscle surgery in 2022 have kept Larnach from really establishing himself in the majors, not to mention how the Twins’ outfield depth has led to Larnach spending a lot of extra time at Triple-A.

The Twins have a 0.5 game lead in the American League Central over the Cleveland Guardians, so it would be hard to trade away a player who could help you get to the playoffs yourself, especially with Alex Kirilloff having just gone on the injured list. Larnach could now prove more valuable to the Twins.

He's hitting just .216 this season with a .314 on-base percentage. He has six homers and 32 RBI.

The Twins have lost five straight games and will play the Cardinals on Tuesday.
