MLB best bets: As Yogi might have said, It ain't over til it's under

The slow section of the sports calendar continues to roll on through the dog days of summer, as MLB and the PGA Tour are the only "major" leagues running right now. The good news is there are countless ways to attack a full baseball slate from a betting perspective, so let's do just that with some total bases bets to kick off our Thursday.

Bet the bases

Luis Robert over 1.5 total bases (+120 DraftKings)

There aren't many hitters around MLB seeing the ball better than Robert right now. The Chicago White Sox slugger is hitting .354 with two doubles and seven home runs over the last 15 days, and he's taken Toronto Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios deep before. He should hit this bet with one swing.

Alec Bohm over 1.5 total bases (+150 DK)

Like Robert, Bohm has been on fire at the dish of late. The Philadelphia Phillies third baseman has five multi-hit games in his last eight starts, and he's hitting .405 with three doubles and two homers over the last 15 days. We think he keeps it rolling against the Tampa Bay Rays in a bullpen game.

Josh Donaldson under 0.5 total bases (+130 DK)

Donaldson is the biggest boom-or-bust hitter in the league right now. In his last 63 at-bats, the New York Yankees slugger is hitting .143 with 19 strikeouts. He has just nine hits over that span, and six of them were home runs. We're banking on the bust outlasting the boom Thursday.

In the news ...

Celtics trade Grant Williams to Mavericks — The Celtics aren't done reshaping their roster. A few weeks after trading away Marcus Smart and bringing in Kristaps Porzingis, Boston sent Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks in a three-team trade with the San Antonio Spurs. The Celtics received two second-round draft picks and a $6.2M trade exception in the deal. If you like the new-look Celtics, you can find them at +500 to win the NBA Finals next season.

Pete Alonso, Mookie Betts highlight Home Run Derby field — The 2023 Home Run Derby bracket has officially been finalized. Two-time champion Pete Alonso will go up against Julio Rodriguez, Mookie Betts will face Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Adolis Garcia will face Randy Arozarena, and Luis Robert Jr. will battle Adley Rutschman. Alonso is the betting favorite to win his third Derby at +250 odds.
