MLB best bets, strikeout props for Thursday 8/3: The Shohei show rolls on

It's been a tough week over here in strikeout prop land, but we still have two days left to scratch out a profit. Let's gun for a sweep with my three favorite K props for Thursday's MLB slate.

Luke Weaver under 3.5 Ks (+120 FanDuel)

Luke Weaver hasn't been pitching well of late. The Cincinnati Reds starter has given up 39 earned runs over his last 10 starts, and he's recorded more than three strikeouts just twice in that span. Now he has to face a Chicago Cubs lineup that's scored 42 runs in the first three games of this series and has made a habit of chasing starters early. This is not the matchup Weaver needs to get back on track. Take the under.

Shohei Ohtani over 7.5 Ks (-144 FD)

This is a great matchup for Shohei Ohtani to put up one of his alien stat lines. The Seattle Mariners have been one of the easiest lineups to strike out all season, and they've been even worse of late with a league-leading 139 Ks over the last 15 days. Ohtani has cleared this number in two straight starts and four of his last six, and he should have no problem getting it done against Seattle Thursday.

JP Sears under 4.5 Ks (-108 FD)

No starting pitcher wants to go up against the Los Angeles Dodgers right now. Over the last 15 days, the Dodgers rank No. 2 in MLB in batting average (.280) and runs per game (6.2), and they also have the third-fewest strikeouts in the league in that span. L.A. has crushed left-handed pitching all year, as the team has the fourth-highest OPS (.793) against lefties. JP Sears has gone under this number in three of his last five starts, and this is the toughest matchup he'll face in that stretch.
