MLB best bets, strikeout props for Thursday 9/14: Civale offers Rays of hope

Wednesday's MLB slate got the best of us, as we went 0-3 in strikeout props for the first time in a few weeks. Minor setback for a major comeback. We still have time to scrape out a profit this week, so let's get back on track with my three favorite K props for Thursday's MLB slate.

Aaron Civale over 4.5 Ks (+100 DraftKings)

Something happened to Aaron Civale when the Cleveland Guardians traded him to the Tampa Bay Rays in August. The right-hander averaged a career-low 6.8 strikeouts per nine innings with the Guardians, but that number has skyrocketed to 10.1 since he joined the Rays. Civale has gone over 4.5 Ks in four of his last five starts. Now he gets to face a Baltimore Orioles lineup that just allowed St. Louis Cardinals starter Drew Rom to rack up a season-high seven strikeouts on Tuesday. Take the over.

Jose Urena under 3.5 Ks (+100 DK)

Jose Urena has never been much of a strikeout artist, and that's especially true this season. Urena is averaging only 4.8 strikeouts per nine innings this year, which is the second-lowest mark of his nine-year career. The Chicago White Sox starter has also gone under 3.5 strikeouts in five of his six starts this season. This line is only set at 3.5 because the Minnesota Twins have the highest strikeout rate in MLB (30.4 percent), but we're still riding the under.

Logan Webb over 4.5 Ks (-136 FanDuel)

Logan Webb sure does love pitching against the Colorado Rockies. In three starts against the NL West rivals this season, Webb has allowed just three earned runs and racked up 17 strikeouts over 20.1 innings pitched. Colorado has the third-highest strikeout rate in the league (27.9 percent), and Webb knows exactly how to pitch to this lineup in his fifth year with the San Francisco Giants.
