MLB best bets, strikeout props for Wednesday 8/30: Nats should hound Bassitt

A second straight 1-2 day brought our record to 2-4 in strikeout props to start the week, but it's not time to panic just yet. Let's get back on track with my three favorite K props for Wednesday's MLB slate.

Chris Bassitt under 4.5 (+116 FanDuel)

If you look at Chris Bassitt's recent string of starts, you'll have no interest in clicking submit on this bet. The Toronto Blue Jays right-hander has gone over 4.5 strikeouts in eight straight starts, and he's gone beyond the fifth inning seven times in that span. So, why is this number so low? Well, because the Washington Nationals have been one of the toughest teams to punch out all season. The Nats have recorded the fewest strikeouts per game in MLB over the last two weeks (6.7), and they're going to make Bassitt work Wednesday afternoon.

Dane Dunning over 4.5 Ks (+110 DraftKings)

What a disrespectful line. Dane Dunning has been a strikeout machine lately with his 11.83 Ks per nine innings over the last month, which is the third-best mark in MLB in that span. The right-hander has gone over 4.5 strikeouts in four of his five starts in August, and now he gets to face a New York Mets lineup that's recorded a 28.7 percent strikeout rate over its last 13 games. There's no reason this should be plus money, so we'll gladly jump on the over.

Brandon Pfaadt under 4.5 Ks (-110 FD)

Brandon Pfaadt is on a strikeout tear with 30 Ks over his last five starts, but it won't be that easy against the hottest lineup in the majors. The Los Angeles Dodgers have the highest batting average in MLB over the last week (.339), and they've recorded a 19.56 percent strikeout rate in that same span. This is a bad matchup for a rookie starting pitcher going up against a star-studded offense that's firing on all cylinders. Take the under.
