MLB best bets, strikeout props for Wednesday 9/27: Riding the Skubal Express
Another 1-2 mark dropped our strikeout prop record to 2-4 on the week, but we're expecting a bounce-back performance to finish the week strong. Let's get back on track with my three favorite K props for Wednesday's MLB slate.
Johan Oviedo over 4.5 Ks (-136 FanDuel)
Hangover play alert! The Philadelphia Phillies clinched the top NL wild-card spot on Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and they promptly celebrated with beer and champagne in the locker room. It was likely a late night for the Phils, and now they have to turn around 18 hours later and play another game. It wouldn't be surprising to see a lethargic performance out of Philadelphia against Johan Oviedo, and the team might even rest some starters. take the over.
Pablo Lopez over 8.5 Ks (-112 FD)
The Oakland Athletics have mailed it in for the 2023 season, and at 48-109 through 157 games, it's hard to blame them. Oakland has recorded the fewest runs per game (2.6), the second-worst batting average (.203) and the fourth-highest strikeout rate in MLB (31.8 percent) over the last 15 days. Minnesota Twins starter Pablo Lopez is averaging 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings this year, and this might be his easiest matchup of the season.
Tarik Skubal over 6.5 Ks (-140 DraftKings)
We've been riding Tarik Skubal's overs for a while now, and he's been very good to us. The Detroit Tigers starter has gone over 6.5 strikeouts in seven straight starts while averaging 8.3 Ks per game. Yet, sportsbooks refuse to adjust. The line is still set at 6.5 against a Kansas City Royals lineup that's batting .203 with a 35.9 percent strikeout rate over the last week. We'll ride Skubal until he gives us a reason not to.
