Jim Edmonds was one of the greatest defensive center fielders in the history of baseball.

He’s best known for his diving catches.

He sure made plenty of those during his career, from that amazing grab at Kaufmann Stadium with the then-Anaheim Angels to robbing Brad Ausmus of extra bases in Game 7 of the 2004 NLCS with the St. Louis Cardinals.

But let’s talk about that catch in Kansas City.

He had to run a mile to get to that ball and ultimately made one of the best catches in the history of the game.

Today is the 25-year anniversary of that play, and MLB on FOX made sure to celebrate it by tweeting a video of Edmonds making the catch.

Edmonds’ Center Field Prowess

Jimmy Ballgame was something else.

Not only could he play a mean center field, but he could hit too.

He was always one that could come through in the clutch when he was needed.

Over his many years with the Angels and Cardinals, there was certainly no shortage of amazing moments on his behalf.

He truly embodied what it meant to be a Major League Baseball player, playing hard and never taking a play off.

Injuries may have derailed him towards the end of his career, but he was as hard-working as anybody the game had ever seen.

There were so many things Jimmy Ballgame could do on the baseball field.

So many, it’s a travesty that he is not in the Hall of Fame.

The Cardinals at the very least gave him the honor he deserved by electing him to their own Hall of Fame.

But with plays like the one shown in the tweet above, we can only hope that one day, Edmonds makes it to Cooperstown.
