New York Mets‘ veteran ace Max Scherzer was forced to leave his start against the St. Louis Cardinals early when in the top of the sixth, he threw a pitch to Albert Pujols and immediately signaled towards the dugout that he could not continue.

Scherzer left with what was described as left side discomfort and now, Mets fans are fearing the worst.

With Jacob deGrom and Tylor Megill already on the shelf, it’s looking very likely that Scherzer will soon join them.

An MRI is scheduled for today to determine the severity of the injury.

One MLB insider did point out a positive about the injury to Scherzer on Twitter.

“At Least It’s Not The Arm”

Arm troubles are what slowed Scherzer down last year in the NLCS when he was still a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it’s what caused him to be scratched from his start in Game 6 against the Atlanta Braves.

But fortunately, it is not arm related as Chelsea Janes pointed out, which is something that every pitcher fears.

Still, an injury to a side muscle is bad news for any pitcher.

There have been several pitchers who have dealt with similar troubles, with the Cardinals’ Jack Flaherty being one of the more recent examples.

It’s better than an arm injury for sure, but not by much.

It can still really mess with a pitcher’s routine and health.

That seems to be the case here with Scherzer, as he immediately called out the medical staff of the Mets.

The severity of the injury will be determined during today’s MRI.

Either way, it seems like a formality that Scherzer will ultimately land on the injured list and miss some time.
