It was a busy day of the MLB offseason on Saturday, and a former Pittsburgh Pirates’ All-Star has landed a deal with a new team.
Adam Frazier and the Kansas City Royals are in agreement on a one-year, $4.5 million deal for 2024. There’s also an $8.5 million mutual option for the 2025 season. The deal was first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Frazier, an All-Star with the Pirates in 2021, spent six seasons in the black and gold from 2016-21 before he was traded to the San Diego Padres midseason of his All-Star campaign.
He spent the last two seasons with the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles, respectively. This past year in Baltimore, Frazier hit .240 with a .696 OPS, 21 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 60 RBIs and 11 steals.
PAIR OF RELIEVERS OFF THE BOARD
Two bullpen arms agreed to new deals on Saturday. Veteran right-hander Héctor Neris, is headed to the Chicago Cubs, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Neris’ deal has a $9 million club option for 2025 that vests with 60 appearances and also has incentives.
Neris, a 10-year veteran, pitched nine seasons in Philadelphia with the Phillies before spending the last two with the Texas Rangers. His 2023 season was excellent and finished 6-3 with 1.71 ERA. The durable right-hander logged 68.1 innings and struck out 77 batters.
Additionally, fellow righty Adam Ottavino is headed back to the New York Mets on a one-year, $4.5 million, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Ottavino pitched the past two seasons with the Mets but opted out of his contract earlier in the winter.
Last season Ottavino posted a 3.21 ERA in 66 appearances and converted 12 saves.
A’S LAND ROTATION HELP
It’s been an expectedly quiet MLB offseason from the Oakland A’s, but they added some rotation help over the weekend.
The A’s reached an agreement with left-hander Alex Wood, per FanSided’s Robert Murray. Details of the contract are not yet known.
Wood has spent 11 seasons in the big leagues, most recently with the San Francisco Giants, with whom he pitched from 2021-23. He ended last season 5-5 with a 4.33 ERA in 29 appearances/12 starts.
