MLB parlay for Tue. 9/6: Trust the Yankees and Braves

The key to a September parlay is finding a pair of teams that are hot. The Atlanta Braves definitely check that box, which is why they're the first leg of our parlay.

The reigning champs have taken the back seat to the Dodgers and Mets all season, but make no mistake about it, the Braves are scorching hot.

Not only has Atlanta won five straight, they're 61-24 since June 1. But that's not all. Over their last 85 games, Atlanta has scored 459 runs and hit 141 home runs. Meanwhile, their opponents have scored just 288 runs and Braves pitchers have allowed just 79 home runs. That's pretty darn good.

It gets better. MLB wins leader Kyle Wright is starting for Atlanta Tuesday against an Oakland team that has the fewest wins in the American League. Wright has not allowed a run in his last two starts, and the Braves are 11-1 over the right-hander's last 12 starts.

As for Oakland, they've dropped four of five and starter Cole Irvin got rocked in his last start — five runs allowed on nine hits — against the league's worst Washington Nationals. Plus, the A's really struggle to generate much offense. Oakland has the lowest batting average and on-base percentage in baseball, and have scored the second-fewest number of runs. Not exactly ideal for a team facing one of the league's top pitchers in Wright.

As for the final leg of our parlay, we're taking the Yankees over the Twins. New York is far from red hot; however, the Yanks show up against the Twins, especially when playing at Yankee Stadium. Since 2002, the Bronx Bombers are 50-13 when playing the Twins at home. Talk about domination.

Gerrit Cole starting for New York and Aaron Judge hitting home run after home run is just the icing on the cake. Cole got rocked by Minnesota — seven runs on eight hits (five home runs) over 2.1 innings back in June — but prior to that, the All-Star allowed just two runs in three previous starts against them.

And it's not like the Twins are playing well right now. Minnesota has lost four of five and starter Joe Ryan has an ERA over six in his last six starts. Unlike the Atlanta vs. Oakland contest, expect this one to be close, but still. take the Yankees.
