MLB reportedly close to selecting team for Cuban prospect

The convoluted case surrounding Cuban outfielder Eddy Julio Martinez could finally be coming to a conclusion. At least, that is the hope.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported Wednesday that Major League Baseball will decide on a team for the Cuban outfield prospect. Officials are “hoping to resolve the complicated matter this week (or if not, soon after that),” Heyman said.

This is the most updated news in a long ordeal in which it has been difficult to know where the free agent prospect is going to land.

Martinez is expected to be placed with one of two teams—the Cubs or the Giants. He reportedly made a deal with San Francisco, but the “binding” nature of the deal came into question when Martinez then made a deal with Chicago.

The situation has been made so complex due to “multiple people laying claim to the role of his agent,”  Heyman reported.

Supposedly neither team has commented on on-going situation as of late.
