Nationals' Howie Kendrick heads to injured list with strained hamstring

On Wednesday, the Washington Nationals placed veteran first baseman and designated hitter Howie Kendrick on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Sunday (Sept. 6) due to a strained left hamstring.

As noted by Mark Zuckerman of MASN, the 37-year-old, who won 2019 National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player and his first championship ring last fall, has dealt with hamstring issues throughout the summer. Kendrick hasn't featured in the lineup since Washington defeated division rivals the Atlanta Braves last Saturday.

Zuckerman added that the Nationals will likely wait until Thursday to announce a corresponding roster move since the club is off on Wednesday. Washington opens a four-game series versus the Braves on Thursday evening.

Across 25 games this season, Kendrick is batting .275 with two home runs and 14 RBI.
