Nationals' Kyle Schwarber ties MLB record with five home runs in two-game span

The Washington Nationals' decision to move Kyle Schwarber into the leadoff spot is paying off.

Schwarber hit three home runs in Sunday's 5-2 win over the New York Mets after hitting two in Saturday's 6-2 win. His five home runs ties a Major League Baseball record for the most homers in a two-game span, according to MLB.com's Sarah Langs:

Schwarber hit his first home run of Sunday's contest off Taijuan Walker in the first inning.

The outfielder's second home run occurred in the fifth inning when he belted an offering from Walker into the right-field bullpen.

His final home run of the day came in the seventh inning off a pitch from Jeurys Familia.

The Nationals removed Schwarber from the game in the eighth inning before he could try for his fourth home run of the day. According to The Athletic's Maria Torres, Schwarber's knee was bothering him:

Schwarber is having a tremendous June thus far, hitting .270/.342/.698 with nine home runs and 19 RBI on 17 hits. He's batting .241 on the season with 18 homers and 42 RBI.
