Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg: 'Numbness in my whole hand' led to surgery
Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg is ready for the 2021 campaign after undergoing surgery for a nerve issue in his wrist last season.
Strasburg said Sunday that the nerve issue flared up every time he threw a baseball and "basically would go from numbness in my thumb to numbness in my whole hand," according to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
The 2019 World Series MVP also said that the issue stopped after the 15-minute carpal tunnel surgery and that he began offseason workouts much earlier than usual.
Strasburg pitched just five innings during the pandemic-shortened season, striking out two batters.
The 32-year-old will rejoin a rotation that includes Max Scherzer, Patrick Corbin, Jon Lester and Austin Voth.
