The Washington Nationals and veteran outfielder Corey Dickerson are in agreement on a one-year deal.

The deal is worth $2.25 million, but includes performance bonuses that can push it to $3 million.

Dickerson, 33, spent the 2022 season with the St. Louis Cardinals, serving as the team’s fourth outfielder until taking over as the full-time left fielder when Tyler O’Neill went down with a hamstring injury.

Dickerson was off to a rough start in 2022 and went on the injured list in June, but returned a month later and vastly improved.

During the regular season, the 33-year-old hit .267 with six home runs and 36 RBI.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported the news of the veteran outfielder’s new deal with the Nationals.

In Washington, Dickerson will have an opportunity for more playing time, something he may not have received in St. Louis had he stayed with the Cardinals, with O’Neill, Dylan Carlson, and Lars Nootbaar already filling the starting outfield roles and players such as Juan Yepez on the rise.

The veteran will join a young group of outfielders that features Victor Robles, Stone Garrett, Alex Call, and former Cardinal Lane Thomas.

This comes a week after the Nationals had signed veteran first baseman and outfielder Dominic Smith to a one-year deal.

Dickerson could provide a little power from the left side for the Nationals.

His best season came in 2017 with the Tampa Bay Rays, when he hit 27 home runs and posted a .282 batting average.

The Nationals lost 107 games in 2022 and were forced to say goodbye to slugger Juan Soto at the trade deadline.
