Nationals trade catcher Yan Gomes, infielder Josh Harrison to Athletics

The Washington Nationals are trading infielder Josh Harrison and catcher Yan Gomes to the Oakland Athletics, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal is pending medicals.

Washington will receive catcher Drew Millas and pitchers Seth Shuman and Richard Guasch in return, a source told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Harrison rejuvenated his career in Washington, hitting .291/.363/.431 with 52 RBI and six steals over 123 games after signing with the Nationals in July 2020. The 34-year-old is also a versatile defender, appearing at eight different positions throughout his career. He'll be a free agent after the 2021 campaign.

Meanwhile, Gomes gives the A's a veteran presence behind the plate, joining Sean Murphy. He's hitting .271/.323/.454 with nine home runs and 35 RBI this season and will also be a free agent at the end of the year.

Millas is the only player headed to Washington who was among Oakland's top 30 on MLB Pipeline.

The Nationals have been very busy at this year's deadline, trading Max Scherzer and Trea Turner to the Los Angeles Dodgers while also dealing Kyle Schwarber, Brad Hand and Daniel Hudson.

The Athletics have also been busy, acquiring Starling Marte and Andrew Chafin this week.
