The Washington Nationals called up two-time All-Star Tyler Clippard and placed closer Tanner Rainey on the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Clippard, 37, was 4-1 with one save, a 2.48 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings at Triple-A Rochester this season.

An All-Star for the Nationals (2011 and 2014), the right-hander is 56-48 with 74 saves and a 3.13 ERA over 803 games (14 starts) in 15 seasons with 10 teams.

Rainey has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He went 1-3 with 12 saves and a 3.30 ERA in 29 games this season.

Rainey, 29, is 5-10 with 15 saves and a 5.44 ERA in 147 games (no starts) with the Cincinnati Reds (2018) and the Nationals.
