Age is just a number after all right? Nelson Cruz certainly showed us that with his historic outing against the Toronto Blue Jays. It seemed like he saw success every time he stepped up to the plate and he brought in runners six different times.
Fans of the San Diego Padres have been begging to see more action out of him ever since and the coaching staff has been listening. His very productive game on Sunday shot him to the top of the Friars' players with most RBI's as he how holds nine despite only suiting up for five games thus far.
Team manager Bob Melvin has been listening and paying close attention and the fans just may get what they wish as there will be an open spot at right field due to David Dahl's recent injury. Cruz has gotten some practice out there and, due to his positives, that spot may be his.
Melvin spoke on the possibility of this in an interview with The San Diego-Union Tribune.
"Melvin on Saturday mentioned Cruz as a possibility to play right field with David Dahl going on the injured list yesterday with a right quad strain. Cruz, who has been taking fly balls in right field before recent games, has made 833 starts in right field. The last of those was 2018, when he played four games there for the Mariners."

This would definitely be quite the adjustment for an older Cruz but he has experience in the position and he would likely be eased into it.
Considering the confidence he's been batting with, I would not be surprised if he carried it over into the outfield.
"I'll be ready for any situation," said Cruz. "Right field, first base, shortstop."
