New Giants pickup J.D. Davis hated current team when younger?

In some instances, an athlete's previous tweets resurfacing can cause controversy and negative headlines for that individual and his employer. Back in May, New York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes explained he was temporarily deactivating his Twitter account after screenshots of his old tweets from approximately a decade ago that included racist slurs were shared by other users.

Ahead of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline, the New York Mets sent designated hitter J.D. Davis and pitching prospects Thomas Szapucki, Nick Zwack and Carson Seymour to the San Francisco Giants for DH and utility man Darin Ruf. Davis likely will embrace a fresh start considering his recent struggles at the plate, but Matthew Neschis pointed out for the New York Post that the 29-year-old wasn't always fond of his current club.

Back in Oct. 2012, Davis tweeted he was "a fan of any team facing the" Giants and was a "die-hard Giants hater." Neschis added that Davis grew up a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants' bitter division rivals.

"I’m excited for the opportunity to play over there, especially so close to home, being from the West Coast," Davis said shortly after the trade earlier this week. "Grateful for the opportunity."

Davis slashed .238/.324/.359 with four home runs and 21 RBI for the Mets this season and then went 1-for-4 in his Giants debut during Wednesday's 3-0 loss to none other than the Dodgers. Perhaps he'll learn to love San Francisco if he rediscovers his best hitting form over the next two months or so.
